A.B Gardening takes pride in recycling and disposing of all garden waste in the correct manner, making sure that whenever possible it is recycled into a new usable product. We believe it is essential that all waste is disposed of properly and below outline our processes regarding waste management.
Green waste
All the green waste we remove from site is sorted, with the larger material removed to be used as firewood or wood chip. It is then taken to a designated green waste site where it is recycled into renewable, environmentally friendly green waste compost. This is then sold as a multi-purpose soil conditioner or mulch, to put essential nutrients back into your garden. This also improves the soil structure and moisture retention and will assist in breaking down heavy clay soils as well as adding hummus to light or sandy soils.
Wood Chip
We produce wood chip using wood waste from 3 to 6 inches in diameter. This is then stored and turned regularly as it gradually breaks down and becomes great garden mulch. This can be used as a weed suppressant and moisture retainer for your borders. It is also commonly used for informal garden pathways.
Fire wood
The larger timber is separated into hard wood and soft wood. It is left to season for at least 18 months and then cut and split and sold as firewood. Soft wood is made into kindling sticks and is also great for use in log burners, garden fire pits and chimeneas. Hardwood remains the most popular product and is sold for open fires and log burners.
Charcoal
In the summer months some species of hard wood is baked in our charcoal kiln using traditional methods making charcoal which we offer for sale for those great summer BBQs.
If we do work for you, you can be sure we will recycle your waste with the environment in mind. Think eco think AB Gardening!
